Facebook Tip: How To Unannoyingly Post Business Content On Your Personal Profile
If you’re like me (and most entrepreneurs) you have become Facebook friends with many people that you know through business such as colleagues, past clients and even new prospects. Wouldn’t it be great if you could post business content on your personal profile and have it delivered only to the friends you know through business? Well, you can. You do it by creating a special list.
Here’s How To Use Facebook Friend Lists To Post Business Content On Your Personal Profile:
STEP 1: Sign into your personal profile and go to HOME at the top of the screen.
STEP 2: Scroll down to the FRIENDS section in the left-hand column.
STEP 3: Click FRIENDS then CREATE A LIST. Name your list (I call mine “Business Friends”) then click CREATE.
STEP 4: Now go back to your friend section and click SEE ALL FRIENDS, which will give you a two-column list containing all your friends. Choose each of the people you want on your business list, click ADD TO ANOTHER LIST to add them. Choose your business list. (This will not keep them from seeing other content that you want everyone to see.)
Now you have a nice list of people who want to know what you are up to in your business. You can create special updates just for them by this way: Create your post then use the drop down menu that says WHO SHOULD SEE THIS and choose your business list.
What if you want to share posts directly from your business Page to your personal profile?
First, make sure you are logged in as yourself. Next, search for your business Page in the search bar. When you get to your page, select the update and click SHARE to choose only to the people in your special list. This technique also gives your Page a valuable Share as well as an opportunity to reach your business friends (who many also be your best prospects) that are so valuable. All the engagement with this content on your personal page is counted as engagement on your business Page.
(Note: When you share a post this way, Facebook moves the content from above your image to the below it. I copy the text and then paste it in the status update window so it appears at the top of the post.)
At the beginning this may seem like a total pain in the butt to you, but it’s worth it and this is why: Facebook gives higher priority to messages from friends than messages from business Pages, so, there’s a good chance that your post will be served up to your business friends.
By the way, the next time you “friend” someone that you met through business, just add them on your business list right away. It saves time.
So, there you have it. An effective and unannoying way to post business content on your personal profile.
What do you think? Will you try it? Already doing it? Tell me:
So helpful! I don’t always want to send my business info to all of my ‘friends’ but I sure would like to post to some of them. It will be great to have my list at the ready. 🙂
It works like a charm!!! Now you have a good reason to send a friend request when you meet someone through biz that you want to also be friends with.
Thank you Betsy!!!
I’ma gonna do this.
Glad you like it, Susan. I just did it to share my video post from yesterday, and it has been commented on and shared more than I expected. Cool stuff. Let me know how it works for you.
